The Six Nations Championship reaches its 26th edition since its creation in 2000.
However, the tournament has existed since 1883 with the initial format being the Home Nations Championship between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This event was then expanded in 1910 with France being included in the tournament, which ran until the final edition in 1999. The current format of the Six Nations was then formed in 2000 with the addition of Italy, which has since become one of the most anticipated sporting events of the calendar.
England and Wales have the most championships with 39 titles each. However, England currently lead the way with the most outright championship wins (29) with the rest being shared wins, with Wales only trailing behind on 28. The Red Roses also lead the way in Six Nations titles since 2000, with seven championship wins. France, Ireland and Wales have all recorded 6 Six Nations triumphs over the years. With Scotland and Italy not having claimed a single title so far.
Ireland are the current holders of the Six Nations championship and will be looking to get their third in a row this year for the first time in the Nation’s history. Ireland won a Grand Slam back in 2023 in front of their home fans and were hoping for another last year but narrowly lost to England in round four, they won’t be complaining to much as they got the title in the end.
