The Six Nations sees England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales competing for one of the most sought after titles in rugby and for one Nation possibly a grand slam. But who will be lifting the Six Nations title this time around?
The yearly sporting event that captures the eyes of the world is back and the stakes are raised. The tournament will reignite old rivalries dating back to 1870’s between Europe’s biggest rugby nations. The players will be feeling the pressure as they won’t only be competing for a Six Nation title but also a place on the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour to Australia.
Ireland are looking to earn a third straight Six Nations title. They had an impressive display last time around, however, couldn’t complete the grand slam as England ruined their flawless streak at Twickenham with a close win. Ireland also enter the competition without head coach Andy Farrell, due to him temporarily taking charge of the British and Irish Lions. The question is will this be enough for other Nations to gain the edge of the Irish and stop them from winning once again.
France have been the closest team to Ireland’s brilliance over recent years, with them finishing second for the past two year and winning a grand slam of their own back in 2022. This year they will have the addition of their star scrum-half Antoine Dupont, who was absent in 2024 due to his commitment in the Olympics, which could put the Irish threepeat under real pressure. Steve Borthwick’s England have huge potential of doing very well in this Six Nations, if they can turn their recent games of narrow loses into wins they could be in with a chance of winning their eighth Six Nations. Scotland have had an impressive 2024, they have shown the ability to beat anyone on their day. Scotland’s defence have shown that they are at a world class level, but there are worries that the attack is good enough for a Six Nations win. Italy have developed into an impressive team under Gonzalo Quesada, but fears that their momentum may have slowed down after an underwhelming Autumn’s. Wales will be in damage control after not winning in the whole of 2024, they will go into this Six Nations desperate to avoid a second successive Wooden Spoon.
